Welcome to St Mary's Heritage Hub
St. Mary’s Church has stood at the heart of the community in Woodham Ferrers for over 750 years, weathering everything from storms to reformation marauders and surviving two world wars.
Set far back from the main road, blink and you might miss it. But those who take the time to venture up the path are rewarded with a wonderfully historic building in an idyllic setting, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and neighbouring Hyde Hall.
There are a range of exciting programmes and specialist heritage projects taking place across the year placing St Mary’s at the heart of the community. From Candlelight Concerts to a themed history festival - Woodham Fest.
View our eventsYou will find much of the research, archiving and mapping work carried out over the course of the NHLF project via the tabs at the top of the page, but work continues to progress on family history research and new and intriguing stories are continuously coming to light about those commemorated on our war memorials and the missing pieces of our enticing Medieval wall paintings.
Memorial Project Recording ReminiscencesThe pupils of St Mary's C of E Primary School provide a little historical context with a play featuring St Mary's at the centre of the local community for almost 1000 years
Although St Mary’s has always welcomed visitors drawn to this peaceful rural setting, a National Heritage Lottery funded project led to the development of a Heritage Hub in 2023 and opened the doors to all manner of new and exciting opportunities.
